 The University of Maribor today includes nine faculties, a university college, the University Library and a Residence Hall for Graduate Students and Visiting Professors, more than 300 projects in the last years. The University also represents one of the main institutions that provide outstanding conditions for regional development. The Faculty of Organisational Sciences has more than 40 years old tradition in education. Research at the Faculty is organised in 5 laboratories and in the eCommerce Centre. Several electronic commerce solutions implemented in Slovenian organisations originated in prototypes developed in the EDI laboratory established in 1992, transformed in eCommerce Center in 1995. It consists of five laboratories: eMarkets Lab, eProcurement Lab, mCommerce Lab, eCollaboration Lab and Information Systems Auditing Lab. The Centre was established by eight major organizations as a mean of connecting businesses, government and the university with the goal of the implementation of electronic commerce between organizations. The Centre is involved in research projects, prototyping, consulting, education and training all in the field of e-commerce. Among them we recall:Slovenia eCommerce project (national); ENLARGE (IST FP5); MENTOR and MENTOR+ (IST FP5); VE-FORUM (FP6), ALPE ADRIA (inter-regional); eMarketServices (FP6), eGOVRTD2020 - Roadmapping E-government RTD 2020 (FP6), SEAMLESS (FP6), ITAIDE (FP6), mGBL (FP6), Rural-eGov (Leonardo da Vinci).
Other competences: - Research of e-commerce in many different areas as: e-shops, e-marketplaces, e-procurement, e-learning, mobile commerce, groupware technologies etc. Content in many different forms has been accumulated over ten years of work. In this time many research results, project reports and case studies about e-business were produced. - Teaching and training the students, managers and the employees from Slovenian companies about e-business. Many educational workshops and seminars on e-business were executed in last few years. - Good connections with other national and international universities, Slovenian companies and government institutions like Ministry of Information Society, Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, Slovenian Chamber of Commerce, Government Center for Informatics, Small Business Development Centre
In addition, the centre organises the yearly BLED Conference on eBusiness. Many times the Centre represent the environment in which undergraduate and graduate students do their research projects and help them to transfer theoretical knowledge into the practice.
