The IPVS was founded in 1989 and is one of the research institutes of the faculty of computer science, electrical engineering and information technology at the University of Stuttgart. Scientists at the IPVS are working on research and development projects for government agencies, associations and industry, e.g. DaimlerChrysler, Bosch, IBM, Hewlett Packard, Compaq-Tandem, Microsoft, etc.
The IPVS provides advanced technological know-how skills through its research teams. The institute is involved in research activities at the forefront of science and technology. It has participated in various EU-funded projects in the past including DIANE (Acts 082), DART, JVTOS, the EMC˛ action (TEN-IBC B1010, B2010, B3010), CRITIKAL (Esprit 22700), HIPERLOGIC (Esprit 20023), OBIDICOTE (BriteEuram BRPR-CT97-0601), RUNNER project (Esprit 26991) and finally SCOOP (IST-2000-25200). The latter is most relevant to this project as it was concerned with sophisticated co-operation in dynamic SME networks based on co-operative planning and control.
